Castlefergus Countryside Trails Co. Clare
Horse trekking is an excellent way to experience and see the countryside in Ireland. All trails are guided by one of the O'Brien family members, you will hear about the history of the farm and surrounding historical sites while you trail ride out with us.
We have a range of horses and ponies and can cater for beginners as well as experienced riders. Our rides range from 30 minutes for small children, to 1 and 2 hour treks. These rides are available all year round. To avoid disappointment it is necessary to pre-book in advance.
River Ride (1 hour)
Enjoy County Clare’s natural hidden treasures on horseback at Castlefergus Riding Stables. You will take a trip back in time as we ride past the authentic medieval 15th Century Castlefergus Castle. Ramble down the country lane onto our picturesque meadows and farm past sheep and cattle grazing. Ride alongside the meandering banks of the river Rine as we then make our way back to the stables.
Castlefergus Classic Trail (1.5 hours)
This is our most popular trek. Ride through the sheep with their baby lambs at foot in the spring and summer months. Experience ancient Irish folklore as we pass by the ring-forts (fairy forts) dating back to the Bronze Age and by the old railway arches that date back to 1853. Enjoy panoramic views of the farm, as you walk through the Irish meadows in Co. Clare.
